NuWay has been providing tape and reel service since 1975 and remains a leader in
quality, service and depth of capabilities.
Let us apply our years of experience in packaging to help you maximize the
advantages of automation in electronics manufacturing. NuWay offers a complete range
of packaging services, including
SURFACE MOUNT TAPE & REEL (SMT TAPING)
Surface mount assembly of printed circuit boards has revolutionized electronics
asssembly, and NuWay has been involved from the beginning. For standard components,
NuWay stocks hundreds of carrier tapes, so we probably have the tape you need. Our
database of available tapes lists thousands more. NuWay can handle tapes from 8mm to
200mm wide.
Turnaround is fast—rarely more than 2 or 3 days, and we offer same-day service at
no extra charge. We can take “cut tape” parts and package them on reels for
automated handling.
Our service stands out most with custom-size components. We will work with you to
develop a solution, design a carrier tape, and get you into production. Manual
taping can usually begin in 2 weeks or less. Automated taping, which involves an
investment in tooling, reduces the piece part cost and can pay for itself after as
few as 700,000 pieces. Contact NuWay with part drawings or samples, and we will take
it from there.
RADIAL TAPE & REEL
NuWay can tape Radial components using punched paper tape, per the latest version
of the industry standard EIA-468. NuWay offers the standard 12.7mm (0.5”) component
pitch and also the hard-to-find 15mm pitch. We have a vast array of tooling, to
accommodate all lead spacings. NuWay can also tape to your custom specifications,
to give you the lead spacing and height dimensions you are looking for. We can
crimp the leads, too, and change the lead spacing if needed. After taping, parts
can be shipped on reels or in Ammo boxes.
AXIAL TAPE & REEL
Axial taping was NuWay’s original business in 1975, and we still offer the
service today. Typical components for axial taping are capacitors, resistors
and diodes. NuWay will tape components per the latest version of industry
standard EIA-296. You may specify the “inside tape spacing” if desired. Taped
parts may be packaged on reels or in Ammo boxes.
GPAX TAPE & REEL
GPAX is a system developed for automated handling of “odd-form” components.
GPAX, Ltd. designs, manufactures and markets tape feeders, taping machines,
tapes and tape tooling used for the packaging and feeding of components.
NuWay offers the taping service. We will be happy to work with you and GPAX,
Ltd. to develop and implement the packaging solution that’s right for your
application.
BAKING & DRY PACKING
The plastic used in integrated circuits and other electronic components absorbs
a certain amount of moisture. The components may then be subjected to high
temperatures during the solder reflow process. The high temperature causes the
moisture to turn to steam, which “pops” and may cause cracking or de-lamination
of the component.
Because of this, moisture-sensitive components must be kept dry up to the time of
assembly of the PC board. If they are exposed to moisture in a humid atmosphere,
they need to be dried out again and packaged to keep them dry. NuWay offers Baking
and Dry Packing Service to meet this need.
The components are packaged in hi-temperature containers (usually trays), and
placed in an oven and baked at 125° C for 24 hours. After baking, the
components may be re-packaged into Tape and Reel, or left in their original
containers. Then the reel or tray is placed in a moisture barrier bag, along with
a desiccant and indicator card. A vacuum-sealing machine pulls out the air, flushes
the bag with nitrogen, and seals the bag. A product label is then placed on the
outside of the bag along with a “Caution—Moisture-Sensitive Devices” label.
We are often asked “Can you bake components while in tape and reel?”.
Unfortunately, the answer is “No”. The packaging materials—the reel, the carrier
tape, and the cover tape—cannot withstand the baking temperature. Instead, we will
remove the components from tape, bake them, and return them to the original
carrier tape and reels after baking.
NuWay observes the IPC/JEDEC industry standard J-STD-033A for handling
moisture-sensitive devices.
TUBE & TRAY PACKAGING
Components in Tape and Reel may need to be repackaged into trays or tubes. NuWay
stocks hundreds of trays and tubes to help meet your packaging needs.
Re-packaging is a specialty at NuWay Electronics!
NuWay also serves the needs of component manufacturers, such as metal stampers, to
provide specialized packaging solutions.
Contact us with your requirement, and we’ll do what we can to meet it promptly and
with professionalism.
